Quell Wearable Pain Relief Starter Kit – Is It Worth The Cost?

I am always looking for drug free products to achieve the best sciatica pain relief. When I first came across Quell, I was unsure of the product due to its price and wondering its overall efficiency. The majority of the reviews look good, but there are a couple that make me really question the product and whether it really stands out apposed to TENS.

Today, I am going to talk about whether Quell is worth the price tag.

How Quell Compares.

Quell Wearable Pain Relief Device has the easily hidden leg band, the remote itself is very sleek, the mobile app adds a nice touch, and the FDA approval is hard to achieve.

The leg band offers you the ability to wear it all day at work, at the gym, and at home. You can easily hide it under a garment or just wear it out. The band itself is not a negative look at all, it reminds me of a sweat band. We have so many devises that look like it, iPhone, android watches, or pedometer, that no one would really know the difference or care.

We utilize our phones for almost everything nowadays. Why? Because it makes your life easier! You don’t have to go to the bank to make a deposit or go to the store to go shopping and now you do not have to control your pain relief through a remote. You do not worry about anyone seeing the remote or you losing the remote, and you can talk to your friend while fixing your pain relief level. How neat is that?

The FDA makes it difficult to get approval and thank goodness for that. They want to make sure that you are not going to get hurt while using a product that is supposed to make you feel relief. There are not many TENS units out there that are FDA approved, so please be careful when you are looking at a product.

iReliev-PlayMakerThe Rival TENS Unit.

We will compare Quell to the highest rated TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit on the market, the iReliev PlayMakar Wireless TENS and EMS Unit. iReliev has 14 different programs and 25 different intensity levels. The slim, lightweight remote is easy to carry, the pods are easy to hide, and there are no wires connecting the two.

The 14 different programs are broken down into 2 different categories, 8 are for TENS and 6 for EMS (electrical muscle stimulation). 25 intensity levels gives you a lot more power than most units on the market. I would be careful going past level 16, as it does pack some punch.

Now if you had to carry around a remote, I would hope it to be small and not noticeable. Well they did, this remote is simple to use and very lightweight. You can toss it in your purse or throw it in your pocket. There are so many TENS units out there that look like phones from the 80s, oh yeah that beautiful brick phone. Thank you iReliev for that!

I would have to say the best part of the iReliev Wireless TENS unit is the wireless part. It is not fun having to fuss with all the wires connecting the remote and pads and there are only 2 pods that you have to worry about now! They do give you the ability to add 2 more pods for greater coverage.

The iReliev PlayMakar TENS unit is FDA approved as well which, like I said before, gives you the ability to feel comfortable in your choice and not have to worry about the safety behind it.

Let’s dig deeper.

quell-bodyQuell is placed on your calf about 2 inches down from your knee. It stimulates your sensory nerves in your leg to travel the back of your brain. Your brain then releases endogenous opioids to the spinal nerve, this is what provides widespread relief to your body.

You will need to calibrate the device the first time you use it, but keep in mind it takes 2 minutes to ramp up. The stimulation is a strong but comfortable tingling sensation and you are in control of how powerful that sensation is.

Your therapy will last for 60 minutes, but you can stop and start as much as you would like using the app. Your pain relief will last up to 60 minutes after you take the band off.

The device is safe, so you can use it 24/7 without worry. You will be in control of the therapies and how often they repeat throughout the day. The makers of Quell recommend that you use it 2-3 hours a day at least for the first couple of weeks to ensure the products has enough time to work.

If you have trouble sleeping, Quell has 3 sleep variations that you are able to control how many therapies you receive throughout the night. The device has an accelerometer and algorithms to sense your moves and your bodies position. It will notice that you are laying down for a long period of time and adjust to your sleep mode, you can also manually control this as well.

Last, but not least, your battery will last over 30 hours and will only take 2-3 hours to charge.

Cost Of Quell vs It’s Competitors.

There are not a lot of wireless TENS units on the market and the price range varies dramatically.

For all of these Amazon products there will sometimes be a coupon ($10 – $30) that you can add at checkout!

–> There is a 30 day money back guarantee, please be aware if you are not satisfied with your order.

Quell Wearable Pain Relief Starter Kit – $249.00 on Amazon

The starter kit does not come with the new and improved leg band. You will have to purchase that separately at Quell Relief. The standard black and blue is $14.95. There are a variety of colors you can choose from, but the price is raised to $24.95.

You will need to purchase electrodes. They come with the starter kit, but you will eventually need to reorder either a 1 month supply for $29.99 or a three month supply for $89.99.

There is also a Sport version of the electrodes which are exactly the same price. The negative reviews for both versions are the same for the most part, saying that the electrodes do not last that long. Buyers have stated that the Sport electrodes fall apart easily.

iReliev PlayMaker TENS Wireless Unit – $199.95 on Amazon

The nice part about iReliev is that you can use up to 4 pods at a time. If you would like to purchase more wireless reciever pods or eventually replacement pods, they are $29.95 for 2 pods and 4 pads.

Aleve Direct Therapy TENS Device – $ 28.99 on Amazon

The Aleve TENS Therapy is less than 1 inch thick with the flexibility to allow the device to mold to the small of your back. Both the remote and the unit have an on off button. There is an up an down button on the remote to control the intensity of the 15 power levels.

The adhesive reusable gel pads are placed on the electrode area, then places on your lower back for instant comfort. The gel pads are latex free and can be used from 2-5 times. The Aleve unit takes AAA batteries and can be used for up to 120 – 30 minute sessions.

There are a lot of great reviews if you are dealing with back pain. A woman said this device worked for her whole vacation to Mexico!

The main disappointment is the fact of there only being one mode. There were also concerns about the placement being uncomfortable and easy to knock off.

What Buyers Are Saying About Quell.

Quell users seem to be very happy with the stimulation of the product.

Buyers who are rating Quell 5 stars are saying that they are actually going out with friends and families. Some are not leaving the house without their device.

People who have been suffering from sciatica pain and were very skeptical found that within a week their pain was gone! Customers found that it was quite easy to change intensity and find the strength that worked perfect for them.

The main issues arises with the product quality itself and the price tag.

When the devise first came out there were a lot of negative reviews on the band losing it’s elasticity. Users who were not engaging in a lot of activity while wearing the device were having issues with the strap staying in place.  The device is sold as something you can do while still maintaining a bustling lifestyle, so there was a lot of discouraged people out there.

Quell has recently added a new and improved band so that you can feel security while maintaining your active lifestyle.

Customers are using sea salt and electrode gel to help with the adhesion and it is actually helping with the longevity of their electrodes.

There was a couple reviews on the device leaving a rash or burns where the band was placed, both being about a year ago. I would consult your doctor if you are sensitive to any kind of TENS unit or may have sensitive skin to prevent this from happening.

Why I Choose Quell.

I am going to side with the 81% of the users who reported that Quell improved their chronic pain.

There are a lot of TENS quell-momproducts out there, all with pros and cons, but the Quell Wearable Pain Relief Device is more advanced than all of them. Quell is actively focused on user satisfaction and it is important to me how much they listen to their customers!

You do not have to worry about a million wires so no one will know that you are wearing a pain relief device, you can load your information to the cloud so that they can constantly make your experience better, and the device technology is 5x greater than anything on the market.

Finally, the battery life will give you the pain relief you deserve for the whole day, that day at Disney Land with your family and friends now seems like a no brainer!

  4. Wow,

I have never heard of this kind of products! Makes me really feel that I am living in the 21st century. Controlling pain with an app? Sounds super sweet!

One thing I am wondering is that I always suffer from menstrual pain and I have been taking pain relief pills to cope with the pain. May I know if this product deal with menstrual pain as well?

    1. Quell is designed more for nerve pain unfortunately. I wish I knew a device that could help with menstrual pain!

  5. Hi Delanee,

Great post! I have had a TENS machine for about 5 years and use it whenever I have a muscle injury and it works really well. It hasn’t been able to help a lot with my lower back pain so the Quell wearable pain relief starter kit sounds like it is worth a try.

What is the price difference between the two? Thanks again for another really interesting post. keep up the brilliant work 🙂

Depending on the machine you have the price difference can definitely vary. Quell is priced at $246.54, iRelieve wireless TENS unit is $199, and other TENS units cane range from $50- $75. You are paying for the ease and the technology. For someone that doesn’t use it quite often, sticking with a wired TENS unit might not be the way to go. For those who need pain relief daily and are very active, the sleekness of the machine is definitely a huge deal. As well as, you are hitting the sensory nerves right in the sweet spot!

  6. I think this is a unique little gadget, though I’m someone who would be more interested in whether they have a similar product intended to be used on one’s back, as I usually hold all of my stress and have the most pain in my back. If I ever encounter any knee problems or other pain in places that this product can be used on, I’ll definitely keep this in mind.

    1. admin says:

The Quell is a full body relief system. You place the Quell below the knee to target the sensory nerves in a prime location. The devise has helped many with back pain, headaches, shoulder, and neck pain!

  7. What a great idea and I sure could do with this as I get restless legs which is a nerve thing so I am going to try the quell

  8. There are lots of people who are suffering from sciatica pain including me. I am sure that your article will help many people from this health problem. I need to buy one. Do I have to consult a doctor before using it?

    1. admin says:

I would always say to consult your doctor if there is something you are unsure of, especially if it pertains to your nerves. Maybe ask questions of how to make the device work best for you, so that you get the best result for your body! Thank you for your support!

  9. Philip says:

Ouch! Sciatica is very sore indeed.! I am taking a very close look at your wearable pain relief starter kit as I suffer terribly with my back some days. I hurt it when I use to deliver furniture. Picked up something that was just too heavy to lift. My own fault. Doctor had to give me an injection to straighten out my left leg. My back has never forgiven me since.

Some days I wake up and my whole back feels as stiff as a wall. I really need to do something about this. I tend to get joint pains as well. Neck, shoulders, wrists, knees, ankles and there is a condition on it – can’t think of the name. Anyways, it usually affects women, but I am getting it for some years now.

This maybe the product I was desperately looking for.

Thank you for your excellent research to answer my queries.

    – Philip.

    1. I am sorry to hear that Philip! As I dig deeper into Quell I am so much more excited about the product! They are constantly striving to do more to relieve customers pain. It is not a game at all when it comes to your bodies, we need to take care of ourselves! Thank you for the support!
